Free Public Screening of 'Needham: Big Little Town'
A free public screening of the documentary "Big Little Town: The Story of Needham" will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Meetinghouse of First Parish in Needham.
Before there was a United States, there was a Needham. The first Europeans who settled here arrived in America in 1630, just 10 years after the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth. They first made their way to Dedham, and by 1711 they had officially established their own town: Needham.
Our small town transformed itself, over the next 300 years, from a sleepy farming village, to a thriving mill center, to an ethnic melting pot, to an industrial showplace, to an affluent suburb. This is the story of America – told with humor, drama and unforgettable characters.
Created as the finale to Needham’s 300th anniversary celebration in 2011 and narrated by Natalie Jacobson, this film tells this little town’s really big stories. Following the film, co-producers Kathryn Dietz and Marc Mandel will answer questions about how they made the film. The program is part of First Parish's Needham Lyceum series and is free and open to the public.
First Parish is fully accessible and located just off the town square at 23 Dedham Ave (route 135). Please enter through the Lincoln Street doors and follow signs to the Lyceum. There is ample parking in the town lot off of Lincoln Street. For more information, go to www.uuneedham.org or call the Parish office at 781-444-0823.
