On Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, the holiday season officially begins in Needham. Local merchants and restaurants will offer special sales that afternoon, and at 5 p.m. the excitement will begin. People will flock to the Town Common.
There will be a choral group singing. This year, it will be the Highland Men's Glee Club.
The president of the Needham Business Association will give a welcome and the Rev. David Michael of St. Joseph's Parish will give the introduction. The chairman of the Needham Board of Selectmen will deliver the greeting. The Wise family, whose son Andy is a Special Olympian, will be introduced.
Then the countdown will begin and the switch will be thrown and the blue tree will be illiuminated.
Santa will arrive on a fire engine to meet the children.
