'The Odd Couple' Moves in to NHS

Neil Simon's classic 1965 play is coming to the high school stage May 4 and 5.

For better or worse, Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar will be together again this weekend, in Needham High School’s production of “The Odd Couple.” Performed by members of the NHS Theatre Arts Society, the show is based on the 1965 play by Neil Simon, which was later adapted both for a film (1968) and a television series (1970-75). The play will run on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the NHS auditorium. Though many viewers may be familiar with the story of the two mismatched roommates, here is a brief synopsis for those who aren’t: “The show is about two friends, Oscar and Felix, who are both divorced, and they end up moving in together and find that their personalities clash more than a little bit,” explained Mollie Baker, …

Artists Needed for Adirondack Chair Project

The Needham Merchants Association is seeking help for a new public art project that will launch this summer at businesses around town.

A new art project starting up in downtown Needham seeks to connect local businesses, artists and residents in a fun new way. Through the Needham Merchants Association’s “A Chair to Remember” Adirondack Chair Exhibit and Auction project, unfinished Adirondack chairs will be transformed into works of art, displayed at about 20 shops around town and eventually auctioned off with proceeds to support the community. The group is currently looking for artists willing to participate in the project as well as Needham businesses to sponsor a chair by purchasing one and placing it a window or front of the store from July through September. “We were trying to think of ways to inspire people to ‘Discover Needham’—we want people to discover Needham and …

Spring Strawberries and Cream on Biscuits

Pair fresh strawberries with sugar, cream and buttermilk biscuits for a delicious Spring dessert.

"One must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste." ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe I noticed the other day that our strawberry plants are beginning to grow and I already can't wait to pick them fresh from the garden. They are much smaller than the berries you get at the supermarket but they are sweeter and tastier. I immediately began to crave strawberry shortcake. I stopped at the market and found some nice red ripe strawberries but there were no packages of shortcakes in sight. I thought about making my own (nah, too lazy). I looked at the angel food cake (nah, not one of my favorites). Then I wandered over to get the cream and there was my answer...buttermilk biscuits. Just pop open the can, throw 'em in the oven and …
