You Voted: Best Fries in Needham

Find out who won this week's Best Of Needham - Readers' Choice poll.

Who has the best french fries in Needham? The votes for this week’s Best Of Needham – Readers’ Choice poll are in, and readers chose Blue on Highland.

The restaurant, located at 882 Highland Ave., took 54 percent of the votes in this week’s poll, easily winning the top spot for best fries. In second place was Wild Willy’s with 20 percent. Other restaurants earning nods were McDonald’s (5 percent), Brothers Pizza, Nicholas’ Pizzeria and Petit Robert Bistro (all with 3 percent). Fresco also received a glowing review in the comments.

So what about Blue’s fries makes them so special?

“The fries are cut fresh daily using Idaho chef’s potatoes. These potatoes make great fries because of their medium starch. We cook them twice for extra crispiness,” according to Blue on Highland rep Meghan Donovan. “To bring out the savory flavors of the fries, we top them with quality parmesan reggiano and serve them with a unique truffle-chive dipping sauce. We also finish them with fresh herbs and seasoning, which brings everything together for a great bowl of fries.”

A few weeks ago, Blue on Highland took top prize in Needham Patch’s Best Sandwich contest, and readers had good things to say this time around as well.

“Blue on Highland is always a favorite when I am in the Needham area,” wrote Patch reader Bob Sullivan. “Whether fries with a burger or a drink with friends, I'll vote for Blue.”

Congratulations to Blue and to all the great restaurants in town who strive to create a great experience for local diners.

Next week, Patch’s poll will focus on the best place to have your taxes done (albeit, a tad last minute). Want to nominate a place that should be included in our poll? Send your nods to becca.manning@patch.com to ensure we don’t leave anyone out. And check back Monday morning to vote in the new poll.

Now, go eat some fries!

ms. donovan may be attempting to woo the low/medium starch crowd with her commentary...but...any chef knows the reason idaho chef's potatoes are used, and make great fries, is because of their HIGH starch content.
