Week in Review: Local Man Faces Porn Charges
A look at some of the top news stories in Needham over the past week.
Life gets busy, and we at Patch certainly understand that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Needham Patch this week.
1. Needham Man Faces Child Pornography Charges: Prosecutors say they found "disturbing, violent images" of children engaged in sex acts with adults on a computer a Needham man used at his office in Brookline.
2. Farmers Market Plans Moving Forward: The Planning Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a special permit allowing the first Needham Farmers Market to open on June 10.
3. McKnight Revisits 40B History at NHNA Meeting: Jeanne McKnight, a member of the Needham Planning Board and attorney with Kopelman and Paige, shared a brief history of affordable housing legislation and discussed how Chapter 40B has operated in Needham at a meeting of the Needham Heights Neighborhood Association meeting on Feb. 6.
4. Nearly 300 Animals Adopted in January: More than 280 pets found new homes in January through the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s shelters. Needham Patch publishes a Pet of the Week feature every Sunday to help even more cats, dogs, hamsters, birds and other creates find new owners.
5. School Board Mulls Budget Cuts, Higher Bus Fee: The Needham Public Schools School Committee discussed the superintendent’s proposed FY13 reductions on Tuesday, Feb. 7 in a response to Finance Committee recommendations, including a recommendation to raise bus fees by $20 per rider.
6. Raising Needham: Valentine’s Day With The Kids: Parenting columnist Audra Myerberg offers some ideas for celebrating Love (with a capital L) with kids this Valentine’s Day.
7. Legislators Share Budget News With School Committee: Massachusetts State Rep. Denise Garlick and Sen. Richard Ross attend the Feb. 7 meeting of the School Committee and provided an update on the state budget.
8. Score the Perfect Gift for Your Sweetheart: Three Valentine’s Day pros in Needham offer tips for getting the right gift for your sweetie come Feb. 14.
9. In this week’s police reports: Items were stolen in an apartment break-in and a purse was stolen from a vehicle parked outside the Needham Public Schools administration office.
