Week in Review: 2012 Town Election Results

A look at some of the top stories on Patch this week.

 

Life gets busy, and we at Patch certainly understand that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Needham Patch this week.

  1. Borrelli Picked for Selectman; Jacob, DiCicco Win Park & Rec. Seats—In the April 10 Town Election, Matt Borrelli won a two-year term on the Board of Selectmen, while in the Park and Recreation Commission race, incumbent Tom Jacob hung on to his spot and newcomer Dave DiCicco also grabbed a seat.
  2. 2012 Needham Town Election Results: Town Meeting All 240 seats in the Annual Town Meeting were up in the April 10 Town Election. See who won three-, two- and one-year terms. (Official results have not been released yet by the town clerk.)
  3. Selectmen Reorganize: Wasserman Named Chairman—On Wednesday, April 11, the day after the Town Election, two returning members and one new selectman were sworn in to office, and the board reorganized for the coming year.
  4. Town Meeting To Weigh In On Citizens United— A group of Needham residents is asking Town Meeting to join organizations and individuals across the country in calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, saying the 2010 Supreme Court ruling allows unions and corporations to corrupt the legislative process at all levels.
  5. 3 Things You Should Know from the April 11 Selectmen’s Meeting— Utility customers will receive a $65 refund on their bills this spring, a public hearing on a proposed petition to allow alcohol sales in town is set for April 24, and selectmen discussed the recently approved MBTA cuts.
  6. Needham's Dave Duffy Named 2012 MA Football Coach of the Year Needham High School Head Varsity Football Coach David Duffy has been named the 2012 Massachusetts Football Coach of the Year.  The award was announced on April 2 by the MIAA Educational Athletics Department and Coaches Education Program.
  7. What’s New at the Senior Center: Groundbreaking Set!— The Needham Council on Aging will host a groundbreaking at the location of the new senior center at West Street and Hillside Avenue on Thursday, May 3.
