Was it the Right Decision to Keep Schools Open Monday?

Both Needham and Wellesley schools are open, with a two-hour delay. Was this the right call for the towns?

After the Friday-Saturday blizzard dumped nearly two feet of snow on Needham and Wellesley, officials announced Sunday night that school will be open on Monday, Feb. 11

After the announcement was made, several parents and teachers took to social media to express their opinions on the decision to cancel school. Here's a sampling of what we saw:

@R2_SNEweather NEEDHAM Ma TOWN OFFICIALS, W/ Part of your TOWN without Power and Sidewalks a mess... Cancel school...No Excuse !

@avens98 Needham is literally the only town that still has school tomorrow. What is this.

@abbyglassenberg Please let there be school tomorrow. Please. #Wellesley

@cjanuzzi wellesley and needham are the only towns not cancelled tomorrow #coincidence?

The mix of opinions isn't just here in Needham and Wellesley, thought. Meanwhile, other schools in the area are closed for the day. However, some residents in Newton towns aren't too happy either.

What do you think? Did Newton school officials make the right call to cancel school Monday? Share your thoughts/opinions in the comments section below.

I think it is fine that the schools are open with 2 hour delay. I came into work and the roads were fine. It may be more troublesome for teachers and aministrators maybe who don't live in Wellesley and will need to get her.

I think it was the right decision. Kids already missed many days of school and it is not even middle of february!

I thought it was a little premature, as the sidewalks were in the process of being plowed at the same time the neighborhood kids were traveling on foot to school.

Obviously, someone didn't read the email from the superintendent who told parents to drive their kids to school because the sidewalks are such a mess.

Craig, if the sidewalks are impassible, as a rule, there should not be school. You are right, I did not read an email from the superintendent, I just noticed the kids in the neighborhood walking in the street to avoid the sidewalk plow.

The sidewalks are horrible. I had to walk to catch my train this morning in the middle of Highland Ave. I can't imagine having children walk to school in that nonsense.
