A youth riding a bike was struck by a car at the corner of Warren Street and Kingsbury Street at around 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.
The victim, whose age was not given, suffered minor injuries in the collision and was transported by Needham Fire Department paramedics to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham, according to Needham Police Lt. Chris Baker.
The boy was conscious when police and paramedics arrived, according to scanner reports.
This accident is the latest in a rash of incidents of bicyclists getting struck by motor vehicles, which the Boston Globe looks at today.
Several of these incidents have occurred recently near Needham, such as a fatal accident in Wellesley on Aug. 24 and incidents in Weston and Foxborough in which bicyclists were injured.
In July, the Needham Police Department received a $3,000 grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety in town.
And just this week, a local resident submitted a citizen's petition article for the Oct. 29 special Town Meeting seeking to create a bike and pedestrian plan in Needham.
