Primary Polls Closed; Unofficial Needham Results Announced

Patch will announce the winner of the race for U.S. Representative and Governor's Council as soon as numbers are in.

Fourth Congressional District candidates Joe Kennedy III and Sean Bielat won handily in Needham in today's State Primary, according to unofficial results released just before 9 p.m.

Statewide results are still pending.

In Needham, Kennedy won the Democratic nomination with 2,118 votes, easily beating opponents Rachel Brown (110) and Herb Robinson (86). Bielat took the Republican nod in Needham, with 734 votes over opponents Elizabeth Childs (196) and David Steinhof (41).

In the race for Governor's Council, Robert Jubinville took the most votes in Needham, 628, followed by Brian Clinton (475), Bart Timilty (376) and Patrick McCabe (212).

Unofficial results are based on the tally sheets posted at each of the 10 precincts in town and were provided courtesy of Dan Matthews. Town Clerk Tedi Eaton will release official results later this evening.

At around 5 p.m. today, Town Clerk Tedi Eaton estimated that local turnout for the State Primary was at about 10-15 percent—about half the total turnout in the last State Primary, in 2010, when 35 percent of Needham voters came out.

According to the unofficial results, 3,175 ballots were cast in Needham in Thursday's State Primary—about 15.3 percent of the total registered voters in town.
