Plugged In Teens Plan Rainbow Rock Alliance Concert
The July 27 musical event will benefit WAGLY, a support network for GLBTQ youth and allies.
On July 27, Plugged In’s Summer Session students and staff will be rocking and rolling to raise funds for the West Suburban Alliance for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning Youth (WAGLY) at the Rainbow Rock Alliance concert.
WAGLY’s mission is to support the social, emotional and physical well-being of GLBTQ high school youth and allies in the Metro West Boston area by creating and sustaining social and educational programs through peer leadership and adult guidance. WAGLY programs include weekly activities that connect GLBTQ youth and allies, a monthly program called UMBRELLA, specifically for youth who identify as transgender or gender variant, and informative resources and referral services for GLBTQ youth and their parents or adult supporters.
This benefit concert will include Plugged In's five Summer Session student bands performing side by side with a Plugged In music instructor’s classic rock band, Santi and Sons.
The concert will be held on Friday, July 27 from 7:30-10 p.m. in the second-floor Powers Hall at Needham Town Hall. Admission is $5 for students, $10 for seniors and $20 for adults. Concert T-shirts and CDs will also be available for $15 each.
Plugged In is a nonprofit teen rock band program dedicated to showing young artists how to make positive social change through their music. In addition to intensive weekly band classes, song-writing workshops and community performances, Plugged In produces three benefit concerts annually, at which Plugged In students perform to raise money for various charitable organizations and causes chosen by the students.
Plugged In provides a nurturing, supportive community for young artists looking for a sense of belonging, a safe place to express themselves and an ego-free, competition-free environment in which they can use their creative talents to help others.
