Party Like a Princess with Ellie Fund Event

The Princess Party will take place on Aug. 13.

Needham's Ellie Fund will be at the Boston Sports Club in Wellesley on Friday and they want to make sure that everyone in attendance feels like a princess.

As part of a special fundraising effort with Bianca de la Garza of WCVB-TV, The Ellie Fund will host a Princess Party from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 13. Dressing in attire befitting a royal family is highly encouraged for attendees and several regal activities are planned for the afternoon.

According to Hillary McManama, development coordinator for The Ellie Fund, the idea for the party was de la Garza's and this is the first time they have selected a princess theme.

"Bianca is a wonderful friend of the Ellie Fund's and has a four-year-old daughter," McManama said. "She came up with the fabulous idea of having a Princess Party that would benefit the Ellie Fund."

de la Garza has been an anchor for Channel 5's EyeOpener since 2008 and prior to joining WCVB in 2007 spent six years with WFXT-TV. Her reporting experience has run the gamut from stories on Phillip Markoff to reports from the Super Bowl and red carpet events in Hollywood. In addition to work with The Ellie Fund, de la Garza has aided the ALS Association and St. Jude's Hospital, among others.

TV newscasters are certainly no strangers to Ellie Fund events. Earlier this year WCVB's Kelley Tuthill lent a hand in the Kelley for Ellie Fashion Show.

Friday's event will feature singing and dancing, along with manicures, face painting, photo opportunities and crafts. Whole Foods will provide snacks and gift bags and families will be privy to a "Royal Raffle."

"We are thrilled to be the beneficiary of such a magical event," Julie Nations, executive director of The Ellie Fund, said in a statement.

A ticket to the event, which admits one adult with child, is $25 with additional tickets at $10. Breast cancer survivors and their daughters are invited to attend free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at www.elliefund.org/princess.htm.

"100% of the money raised by the event will immediately benefit local breast cancer patients and their families," said Nations.

Sponsors for the Princess Party include Whole Foods, Boston Sports Club, Baystateparent Magazine and Piggy Paint. Boston Sports Club is located at 140 Great Plain Ave. in Wellesley.
