Nomination Papers Available Jan. 3

Town Clerk Tedi Eaton reminds candidates of the deadlines and rules regarding the April 10 town election and notes that all Town Meeting members must run for re-election this year.

Nomination papers for candidates running for town offices and Town Meeting members will be available in the town clerk's office beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3 for the annual town election to be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.

Candidates for town office must obtain at least 50 valid signatures of registered voters townwide and new Town Meeting member candidates must obtain at least 10 valid signatures of registered voters in their precinct.

The last day to file nomination papers with the Board of Registrars is Tuesday, Feb. 21. Incumbent Town Meeting members must return the written acceptance form, which they will receive in the mail, to the town clerk's office by Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Please note: With the completion of the , all Town Meeting members must run for election this year. Those with the top third votes in each of the 10 precincts will receive the three-year term. Those with the second third votes will receive the two-year term, and those with the last third votes will receive the one-year term.

The following slate of offices will be on the April 10 ballot:

  • One Moderator for One Year
  • Two Selectmen for Three Years
  • One Assessor for Three Years
  • Two Members of School Committee for Three Years
  • One Trustee of Memorial Park/Trustee of Soldiers’ Memorials, Veteran, for Three Years
  • One Trustee of Memorial Park/Trustee of Soldiers’ Memorials, Non-Veteran, for Three Years
  • Two Trustees of Needham Free Public Library for Three Years
  • One Member of Board of Health for Three Years
  • One Member of Planning Board for Five Years
  • One Commissioner of Trust Funds for Three Years
  • Two Members of Park and Recreation Commission for Three Years

In addition, the following Town Meeting Member positions will be on the ballot:

  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct A
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct B
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct C
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct D
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct E
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct F
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct G
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct H
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct I
  • 24 Town Meeting Members from Precinct J

Candidates for re-election will be listed on the ballot first, in alphabetical order, followed by new candidates in alphabetical order. For information, call the town clerk's office at 781-455-7500.
