Needham teen Aly Raisman will be featured in a new two-hour documentary on Comcast SportsNet New England that looks at Raisman's efforts to join the U.S. women's gymnastics team at the 2012 London Olympics this summer.
The feature-length documentary, "Aly Raisman: Quest For Gold," will air in three parts on July 9, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. on Channel 52 for Needham Comcast subscribers (Channel 852 in high-definition).
The film chronicles Raisman's journey from her Gold Medal performance at the 2011 Gymnastics World Championships in Tokyo to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials taking place in June.
The new documentary "provides viewers with a unique inside look at the 18-year-old gymnastics phenom as she balances her commitment as a professional gymnast and competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, with living an everyday life as a high school senior," according to a press release about the film from Comcast SportsNet New England.
Filmmakers were given "unprecedented access" to Raisman's daily life over several months, the press release states.
The resulting documentary is "an inspirational and emotional look at what an American Olympic hopeful endures to represent her country on the world stage," according to the release. "Viewers will see much more than a typical 'day-in-the-life' story, as they will get an intimate and exclusive look at both her gymnastics training and personal challenges as she evolves into a national gymnastics superstar."
