Amie White was put in a bad situation. But all things considered, she's been able to make the most of it.

White, a Needham resident, was previously diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She's battled it throughout, and continues with a positive outlook as well.

On Saturday, White was one of several Pan-Massachusetts Challenge bicyclists who were honored during pregame ceremonies before the Red Sox game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Though the team lost, 4-2, on the evening, the starting pitcher for the local nine was an inspirational figure of his own. Ace lefty Jon Lester warmed up about 10 feet in front of the riders before the game. Lester is a cancer survivor himself.
