5 Things You Need To Know Today: Sept. 14

Don't miss the Library Foundation of Needham's fundraising gala tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at the Needham Sheraton.

1. Chance of evening showers: Today will be sunny, with patchy fog before 8 a.m. The evening will be increasingly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. High: 79, Low: 57. Chance of precipitation: 30 percent.

2. Sing-a-long: Children ages 2 and up are invited to drop by the Needham Free Public Library today at 3 p.m. for a sing-a-long with musician Ed Morgan.

3. On the field: Needham High School football will travel to Mansfield High School tonight for their one non-league game of the season. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.

4. Last chance: If you haven’t already, be sure to get your tickets to the Library Foundation of Needham’s Black, White and Read All Over Gala, which will be held tonight from 7-11 p.m. at the Sheraton Needham Hotel. Enjoy a buffet dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions and meet “Wicked” author Gregory Maguire. Tickets cost $75 each; purchase them online at www.lfnonline.org and click on “register for gala” on the homepage. Proceeds from the gala will help build an endowment to benefit the Needham Free Public Library.

5. Basketball signups: Registration forms for the 2012-13 season for St. Joseph's In-Town Basketball League, open to boys and girls in grades 5-8, can be found online at www.stjoesintownhoop.com. Walk-in registrations will be held in the Kennedy Center Gym at St. Joseph's on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9-11 a.m.
