5 Things You Need To Know Today: July 20

Celebrate Rosemary Pool's 40th birthday with a pool party tonight from 6-7:30 p.m.

“Five Things You Need to Know Today” is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.

1. Cooler weather: After a few days of hot and humid weather, things will cool down a little today, with a high near 76 degrees and a low around 54, according to the National Weather Service. The day will be partly cloudy, and the evening will be mostly cloudy.

2. Pool party: Come celebrate Rosemary Pool’s 40th birthday with a party tonight from 6-7:30 p.m. Enjoy games, crafts, music, a memory mural and birthday cake. Cost is $3 after 6 p.m., or come early and swim. Rosemary Pool opens at 12:30 p.m. daily.

3. Another chance to watch: If you missed the premiere of the Needham documentary, “Big Little Town,” on WGBH yesterday, there are more opportunities to watch it. The film will air today at 2:30 p.m. on WGBX (Channel 44) and through the weekend. See the full schedule here.

4. Friday Flick: Drop by the Stephen Palmer Senior Center at 1 p.m. today for a free showing of the 2011 film “The Artist.” For a look at other programs and classes offered by the Council on Aging, check out our weekly roundup, which runs every Saturday afternoon on Needham Patch.

5. Time to vote! Now that we've got your nominations, the 2012 Needham Patch Readers’ Choice polls will go live on Monday, so be sure to check back then and vote for your favorite places around Needham, from hair salons to breakfast spots to jewelers. Vote from July 23 through Aug. 17. The top vote getters in each of about 20 categories will be named the winners toward the end of the summer.
