1. Olympic Fun Day

• Where/when: Watertown, Boston, Medford and other towns—or plan one in Needham; Saturday, July 28, various times
• Why go: First Lady Michelle Obama's fitness initiative, Let’s Move, and Patch are teaming up to bring Olympic sports to life for you and your family in your town in a number of ways, including getting the word out about Olympic Fun Day on July 28—a day to get moving, try something new and have fun in celebration of the Summer Olympics. You can find local Olympic Fun Day events on the First Lady’s Let’s Move website, which right now has a great page about how to set up your own local Olympics. Meet-ups are currently planned in Watertown, Medford, Boston, North Reading and other area towns. Start your own or join an existing event.

2. FUNtastic Saturdays for Kids

• Where/when: Linden Square Courtyard, 180 Linden St., Wellesley; Saturday, July 28, 1-4 p.m.
• Why go: Linden Square hosts its summer fun days every Saturday from July 7 to Sept. 15. This weekend, kids can enjoy a petting farm, juggler, food jewelry, make-your-own summer pinwheel and much more. See the full summer schedule on the Linden Square website.

3. Watch the Olympics

• Where/when: NBC on Channel 7 (RCN/Comcast) or 25 (Comcast) or watch it live online at NBCOlympics.com with a cable, satellite or telco TV subscription that includes MSNBC and CNBC; Sunday, July 29 beginning at 9:45 a.m.
• Why go: Catch one of Needham’s own, gymnast Aly Raisman, in action for Team USA. Aly will take part in the team competition, and, depending on how she does in qualification, she could compete in the all-around and individual events. Only two members of each team can qualify for the all around and individual events and they must be in the top 24 overall for the all around and top eight overall in each event. Raisman placed highest on the beam and floor in the Olympic Trials and finished third in the all-around. Qualification begins on Sunday, July 29 at 9:45 a.m. and will be shown from 2-2:40 p.m. on NBC and in the primetime broadcast, which begins at 7 p.m. Click here for a guide to other Massachusetts Olympians and their events.

4. Needham Farmers Market

• Where/when: First Parish in Needham, Unitarian Universalist, 23 Dedham Ave., Needham; Sunday, July 29, 1-5 p.m.
• Why go: Catch up with your neighbors and shop from a variety of items including sweet corn, award-winning tomatoes, raspberries, gooseberries, blackberries, blueberries, cousa, romano beans, broccoli, flying saucer squash, pickled cukes, zucchini, swiss chard, carrots, several kinds of lettuce (beautiful, large heads!), kale, herb mix, scallions, radishes, summer squash, beets, chives, spinach, basil, beans, cucumbers, and lots more. Peaches and plums may also be available. Featured vendors will include MacArthur Farm, Neighborhood Farm, Needham Community Farm, Globe Fish Company, John Crow Farm, Foxboro Cheese, Hazel’s Bakery and Big Sky Bakery. Music will be performed by Jerry Wasserman, a Needham selectman, and featured artists will be Candy Sidner and Berline Chao. The market is held every Sunday through October. 5. Insect Walk at Needham Community Farm

• Where/when: Needham Community Farm, 0 Pine St., Needham (near the Charles River Street end of Pine Street); Sunday, July 29 at 2 p.m.
• Why go: Join the Needham Friends of Woods and Waters and naturalist Joy Marzolf of the Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary on an educational Insect Walk. Long pants and long sleeves are recommended. The farm driveway is a right turn off Pine St., just before it meets Charles River Street. Gather at the paved parking area on the left side of the driveway, 500 yards from the entrance.
