Rising Needham High School senior John Wescott was honored as Needham Youth Services' June RAY of Hope recipient.
Wescott, who aspires to be a policeman, will be an intern this summer for the Boston Police Department where he will shadow a Boston Police Sergeant weekly.
He was selected to part of the Be the Change Program at Needham High School that meets every Friday morning to talk about what is needed to change at the high school and how to make those changes happen.
For his recent Be the Change project, Wescott and two other members gave a PowerPoint Presentation to the eighth grade clusters about their transition process to the high school.
Wescott was also recently elected to the judicial court at the high school, which hears students' disciplinary cases.
Wescott plays football and rugby for the high school. One of the biggest highlights of his time at Needham High School was playing in the high school super bowl at Gillette Stadium.
In his spare time, Wescott plays the drums and works part-time at Taylor’s Stationery Inc.
