Stamp Out Hunger in Needham on May 12

Submitted by the Needham Community Council

On Saturday, May 12, the Campbell Soup Company and the National Association of Letter Carriers [NACL] are partnering once again to sponsor Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest single-day food drive.

All food collections in Needham will be delivered to the Needham Community Council’s Food Pantry to support Needham residents. Food, gas and energy costs continue to increase, local residents might be out of work, and families are struggling; we continue to see an increased need for support from our food pantry.

Needham residents are being asked to donate canned meats and fish, soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice; but do not include any items that have expired or anything in glass containers. Donations should be placed by the mailbox or front door and will be collected by a letter carrier during the day.

Visit helpstampouthunger.com  for more details on the May 12 collection and please be sure to thank your letter carrier for helping to support the Needham Community Council’s Food Pantry and Needham residents.

Visit the Council website at needhamcommunitycouncil.org for a monthly “wish list” of food pantry needs.

The Needham Community Council's Food Pantry has been in existence for more than 20 years and currently serves an average of 200 Needham families each month. Clients receive food, paper goods, bread and pastry which are generously donated to the council by community businesses, school groups, Houses of Worship and individuals.

The council is also a member of the Greater Boston Food Bank. They provide food supplies at cost which are then distributed by the Council Food Pantry to Needham residents. Financial donations allow us to purchase items which are needed, but not donated.

The Needham Community Council is a private nonprofit organization which supports people in Needham who have under-met health, educational or social needs and promotes volunteerism, community and a sense of shared responsibility.

The council does not receive any public funding and rely on the generous contributions of the community to support our programs. For more information about the council and/or the Food Pantry, call 781-444-2415, visit their new home at 570 Hillside Ave. or visit the website at needhamcommunitycouncil.org.
