Save the Date: Needham's Walk Through History
Take a walk through 300 years of Needham history with the Needham Historical Society on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During Needham's Walk Through History, you will enjoy a self-guided tour through the familiar places that you only thought you knew well! Learn the hidden history behind the places you see every day.
It’s free! Pick up a Guide Map at one of these locations:
- at the Needham Historical Society (1147 Central Avenue, in front of Newman School);
- at the NBA Harvest Fair on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Historical Society’s table;
- on the Society’s website, www.needhamhistory.org/ HistoryWalk
- or at any one of the Hubs on Walk day (Oct. 14)
Start anywhere. Follow as much (or as little) of the route as you wish. Along the route are six Hubs—places of special historic interest. Between the Hubs you will see signs highlighting specific landmarks and their history. Speakers will be available at each Hub to tell stories and answer your questions.
Kids can follow a Scavenger Hunt along the way. Answer questions about the sites on the Walk and win prizes! Scavenger Hunt lists can be picked up and handed in at the Hubs.
New this year is the Needham Heights Loop. Even if you’ve been on the walk before, there is a whole new route for you to follow. Learn about the knitting mills, the original public library and Needham's first telephone.
