The Needham Cultural Council has released the schedule for the fifth annual New Year’s Needham celebration, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 31 in various locations in downtown Needham,, including the newly renovated Powers Hall located in the Needham Town Hall.
Enjoy outdoor music and a light show as ice sculptor Jerome Shea will unveil this year’s fantasy-themed castle sculpture.
There will also be a free trolley throughout the day to transport young and old to the more than 40 performances.
Special attractions include the nationally renowned comedian Jim Colliton and Sgt. Daniel M. Clark, known as “The Singing Trooper," magician Chris Bolter, Kids’ Exchange Club Train, visual art exhibits by the Needham Art Association and an afternoon of arts, crafts and so much more at the Creative Movement and Arts Center.
The Needham Concert Society, which boasts members from both the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops orchestras, will present a program of festive and exciting classical chamber works.
Finally, adults can dance in the new year at the new NYN dance celebration at the VFW Hall featuring the seven-piece band Hipsocket playing Jazz, Motown, soul, funk and pop (With NYN button, $10 at door; $15 without. Cash bar and light refreshments provided).
Buttons for New Year’s Needham are now on sale for $5 at the following locations: Stephen Palmer Senior Center, Needham Park and Recreation Dept. at the Public Services Administration Building, selectmen's office at the Town Hall, Taylor's Stationery, Roche Bros., Sudbury Farms, Needham Free Public Library, and Perennial Design. The button price has not increased for 2012 and allows access to all New Year’s Needham events except for the NYN dance celebration in the VFW Hall.
As a special incentive to purchase buttons early, show your NYN button to the following Needham establishments and enjoy the discounts or deals during the month of December: Get a 10 percent discount from Needham House of Pizza, Nicholas’ Pizzeria, Petit Robert Bistro, Stone Hearth Pizza Co., Bagel’s Best ($20 minimum), Home Trends (stock items only) and Simply Stated. Lola Tortola will give a free photo clip with $50 purchase, Comella’s will give a free half loaf garlic bread with $25 order and Rice Barn will give two free scoops of ice cream with a $50 order.
