Needham Farmers Market To Hold Tomato Fest Sept. 9

The Needham Farmers Market Tomato Fest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9 on the front lawn of First Parish in Needham.

There will be many fantastic varieties of heirloom and award-winning tomatoes. Bring in your own tomatoes for contests including tomatoes that most look like a celebrity, biggest tomato and ugliest tomato. There will also be a guess-the-weight-of-the-tomato contest for visitors ages 12 and under.

In addition to tomatoes, some of the terrific fresh produce will be sweet corn, apples (McIntosh, Cortland, Gala and more), blueberries, cousa, romano beans, broccoli, flying saucer squash, lettuce (Red Leaf, Buttercrunch, Boston and more), kale, scallions, radishes, summer squash, peaches, beets, chives, spinach, several kinds of basil, beans, garlic, eggplant, cucumbers, watermelon, grapes, melon and lots more.

Vendors will include MacArthur Farm of Holliston; The Neighborhood Farm (a collection of market gardens in and around Needham); The Needham Community Farm; John Crow Farm from Groton; Globe Fish Company from Northern Ave., Boston; Foxboro Cheese; Big Sky Bakery; and Hazel’s Bakery.

Featured artisans on Sept. 9 will be Debbie Winnick and Sheryl Scipione, and there will be fantastic music by Finally Friday. The Needham Community Council will be at the nonprofit table.
