Several local students were named to the dean's list at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, for their outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2011-12 year.

• Michael J. Verschoor-Kirss, a member of the Class of 2012, is the son of Rein Kirss and Carla Verschoor of Needham and attended Needham High School.
• Joshua M. Balk, a member of the Class of 2014, is the son of Steven Balk and Devra Bailin of Needham and attended Needham High School.
• Margaret E. Sargent, a member of the Class of 2014, is the daughter of James and Elizabeth Sargent of Needham and attended Needham High School.

Students whose grade point averages were 3.68 or higher were named to the Dean's List.

Founded in 1813, Colby College is the 12th-oldest independent liberal arts college in the nation. The college enrolls 1,825 students.
