On behalf of Needham Youth Services, I would like to thank Officer Vin Springer, of the Needham Police Department and Shawn Donavan of the Needham Fire Department, for teaching a self-defense class to our Extreme Looks participants. 

Extreme Looks is a program for sixth to eighth grade girls that focuses on how the media impacts girls’ self-esteem, body image and perceptions about relationships. The program incorporates activities, discussion and safe ways to exercise that teach participants healthy ways of taking care of their mind, body and spirit.

The self-defense techniques that Officer Springer and Firefighter Donovan taught were a welcome addition to the program that the participants found fun and valuable.
