- Name: First Parish in Needham, Unitarian Universalist
- Occasion: Horace Mann Sunday
Does anyone even recall who Mentor was? How about Horace Mann — the UU pioneer of free public education for all? Today let's admit that effective education requires not just book learning, but also real mentoring. On this Horace Mann Sunday, closest to his May 4 birthday (1796), we honor all who work in public education, with a special nod to volunteers in our Channing School Project in Boston, and who tutor or mentor. The music, sung and instrumental, will be by Vivian's father and mentor, Christopher Montgomery. John will be joined on the chancel not only by Molly Housh, our current intern minister, but also by the Rev. Sarah Gibb Millspaugh, our Consulting Minister for Pastoral Care during his May-August sabbatical leave, and by the Rev. Cheryl Rubin Lloyd, Community Minister and Coordinator of the Channing Project. This will be John's last service until August. Please join us, Sunday, May 2, 23 Dedham Ave., 781-444-0823.
Children check in downstairs for children's worship followed by mini-Walk for Hunger.
