Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Honors Bill Fine as Role Model

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts' 21st annual Leading Women Awards Breakfast will take place on Monday, October 29 at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston. This special event takes on additional importance as one of the final events in a year-long celebration of Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary. Among six remarkable role models, Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass. will honor Bill Fine as a "Leading Man in a Supporting Role." Fine is president and general
manager of Boston’s WCVB-TV Channel 5, the market-leading news station and ABC affiliate, as well as its award-winning website, WCVB.com – The Boston Channel.

Fine, a Massachusetts native, graduated summa cum laude from Boston University’s College of Communication, with a bachelor of science in broadcasting and film. He began
his career on-air as a sports reporter, director, and then sales account executive at WPTZ-TV in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY, market. Fine then joined WCVB, and during the next 11 years was promoted through the sales
management ranks, ultimately assuming the position of vice president and general sales manager in 1996. He moved to Baltimore in 1998, to assume the job of president and general manager of WBAL. Fine returned to Boston and WCVB in 2005 as the fourth president and general manager in the station’s 40-year history.

Under Fine’s tenure, WCVB has been named America’s best television news station, receiving the Edward R. Murrow Award, a regional award for overall news excellence in 2011 from the Radio Television Digital News Association.  WCVB has also won “Station of the Year” honors from the
Associated Press. As leader of the board and on-air reader of the station’s weekly editorial, Fine has won three consecutive Associated Press Awards, in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and received a New England Emmy Nomination in 2011 and 2012.

In the Boston community, Fine serves on the board of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and the United Way, and is a member of the Boston Medical Center Leadership
Council, the Ad Council’s Boston Leadership Committee, and the Executive Committee of the Catholic Schools Foundation Inner City Scholarship Fund. Nationally, Fine serves as entertainment chairman on the ABC Television
Affiliates Association Board of Governors and is vice chair of the Television Bureau of Advertising’s Board of Directors. He resides in the Needham with his wife Gail, and has three children.

Each year Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts honors remarkable leaders who have made a positive impact through their career and in the community,” explained Ruth N. Bramson, CEO, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.  “The Leading Women Awards is a way for our girls to meet great role models like Bill and for our supporters to learn how Girl Scouts is creating future women leaders.”

“It is quite an honor from an impressive organization whose great work inspires countless young women to achieve greatness, and I am deeply appreciative to accept on behalf of WCVB-TV,” said Fine.
